Chain Braiding - bondage tips

The chain braid is a convenient and effective way to shorten and store a length of rope. Once completed, the chain-braided rope can be tossed in bag or hung on a wall without fear of it tangling with itself or other nearby ropes. It can also be quickly and easily untied for use in the playroom!

Rope length: Any length

Rope diameter: Any diameter

Begin by finding the middle of your rope and creating a bight, looping the rope as shown (counterclockwise and under the bight).

Put your finger through the eye of the loop you created and take hold of the two dangling ropes.

Pull the two rope ends through your loop and create a Double Slipknot.

Now, fish your fingers through the new loop you created and again take hold of the two dangling ropes.

Pull the two rope ends through your loop, and repeat the operation until the chain reaches your desired length.

To prevent the chain braid from unraveling, thread the ends of the ropes all the way through your last loop.

The chain can be easily released by pulling the threaded ropes out of the last loop.

Pull the ends until all the Slipknots are released. Once all your Slipknots are out, you’ll be holding the rope in a bight right at its middle, conveniently ready to tie!
